REPORTS TO: Head of Enhancement

PURPOSE: To review and develop library policies and procedures, to ensure such polices are promulgated in a customer friendly manner. To provide analytical support on the performance of the Learning Resource Center, its services and use of resources, so as to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the LRC and its services to the community

CONTEXT: The community of LRC users is growing larger and more diverse. There is a need to review and develop appropriate policies and procedures to govern the performance of the LRC. In addition the performance of the LRC needs to be monitored and action taken to enhance the service on a timely basis. This post provides the analytical and policy support to develop these needs.

Principal Responsibilities

  • To review the performance of the LRC from a range of feedback and to recommend improvements to the LRC services
  • To review the resources of the LRC and to initiate and coordinate resource purchases
  • To recommend purchases and coordinate faculty orders for all print and electronic Learning Resource Centre resources. To communicate with publishers and suppliers in order to be well informed in new products and services.
  • To ensure wide usage of the most valuable and up-to-dated resources in different areas of research interest.
  • Develop library policies and procedures and to communicate such to LRC users
  • Evaluate the collection, recommend purchases and coordinate faculty orders for all print and electronic Learning Resource Centre resources
  • Create subject-specific online Learning Resource Centre resource guides and instructional tools to support research and learning
  • Review and evaluate materials, using book reviews, catalogs, faculty recommendations, and current holdings, to select and order print, audiovisual, and electronic resources
  • Assist in Learning Resource Centre promotion and outreach
  • Maintain relationships with local consortium and vendors
  • Consult with staff regarding technology-based Learning Resource Centre plans
  • Maintain Learning Resource Centre website with updates, enhancements, and functionality
  • Any other appropriate duties as directed by the Head of Enhancement/Library Manager

Person Specification The appointee should be able to demonstrate the following:


  • 1st degree in related to LRC disciplines
  • English language proficiency


  • Some experience in related areas is preferable

Aptitudes, Abilities, Skills and Personal Qualities

  • Willingness to learn and administer new Learning Resource Centre-related technologies
  • Ability to respond to staff and patron inquiries in a prompt and courteous manner
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, especially Excel
  • Flexibility, initiative, creativity, energy, patience and tact
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Knowledge of acquisitions processes and procedures
